  • What does it mean to live well?

Posted on June 17th, 2006 mail No comments

    JR
Last night and today we went to the funeral home, an old friend and teammate from high school Jr. McCutchen died as a result of a heart attack. I feel so badly for his wife and kids. It was very sobering to look at him and realize that I’ll be there, it is just a question of how soon. We all think we have a long time to live.
At our company, I try to start every project with “the end in mind”. Why not live with the end in mind? The priest read from Luke 23 where the thief on the left doubted and the other trusted, the priest asked which one we will be, the one that questions His authority (overtly or by neglect) or the one that trusts in Him.

I’ve been reading John Pipers book “Don’t waste your life” and last week we went over to Andy Pierce’s house where he’s doing a book study with the college group. All this has me thinking…

What does it mean to live well? Not to waste life, but to …? (what) How to finish this sentence, … that is THE question. Seems like most good Americans would answer comfort, excessivness, materialism or “affluenceza” - to be so affluent that you avoid risks or discomfort?

What is the opposite of not wasting my life?

    • “to be successful in a carreer”?
    • “to be maximally happy”?
    • “to accomplish something great”?
    • “to find the deepest meaning & significance”?
    • “to help as many people as possible”?
    • “to serve Christ to the full”?
    • “to glorify God in all I do”?

OR is there a point, a purpose, a focus, an essence to life that fulfills every one of those dreams?

An essence that can gives Passion to living live with vigor?

…thougths from John Pipers book - “Don’t waste your life”
